> a gift exchanges should not involve explicit bargaining or demand that the gift be reciprocated but a relationship in which that is only giving and no receiving is unlikely to ask. Eg: cant complain what peoples give to us.

> gift are exchange between individual who are a part of outgoing interdepentent relationship. Eg: only gift to the peoples you knows, family and friends.

Commodity Transactions

> one-way relationship, you buy when you need.

> no obligation exsist after the exchange is consummaked.

> community are not unique and derife are no special value. Eg: Just wants.

> individuals are self-interested and independent actors. Eg: for ownself.


Public Goods - can get the information from forum, wikipedia and we cant block them.

Digital Goods - peoples can check online later, it become of chat log. 


Benefits of Online Cooperation

[Changes in Costs]
= like organise gathering or gives notes to others.  

[Changes in The Production Function]
= previously need 100 peoples gather and work for it but now just online discuss and upload the document or information.

[Changes in Benefits]
= when peoples facing problems, they can post the status ask help from others.
= everyone can use and share the same information.


Motivation for Contributing

[Anticipated reciprocity]
= generalize exchanges

[Effect of contributions on one's reputation]
= increase one's prestige in the community
= Eg: Blogger - post things let people read it, to be famous and well-known.

[Individuals contribute valuable information because the act results in a sense of efficacy]
= make people feel like own very useful and important.

[A person or the group as a whole has a need for it]
= peoples know they need the information.

1. Explain the motivations that drive contributions and collaborations.

2. What are the changes in costs and benefits of online coorperation.

3. State the difference between gift exchanges and commodity transactions.

4. Economies of coorperation changes as one moves to the Internet. Do you agree with the statement? Yes/No? provide evidence and examples.
